I walked outside to see what is left of my “garden” (not much) this morning, to take photographs for the WordPress weekly photo challenge theme, Changing Seasons.
The plants looked worn, some with mold, but still, it may not be completely clear to these plants that it is already December! Maybe a tad of the effects of global warming here?
This is the first time I’ve posted photos taken the same day as the challenge. From my phone camera this morning…

December Strawberry

A neighboring tomato branch fell over on top of some geraniums. One more tomato will try to ripen! The lemons on track with their own schedule…

December Daisy!

Leaves are still on this tree… Oddly, the leaves at the bottom were a different color from the red-hued leaves on the rest of the same tree.

Jeff complains that in California, we really do not get changing seasons, and he misses — even after living here for decades now — the true four seasons experience in other regions of the United States.
I disagree…It’s rainy, it’s cold, the days are short, and we do have deciduous trees, with leaves that change color and fall off (eventually) during winter. So YES, we indeed have changing seasons!.
The seasons are just not as pronounced as other places. Then again, the mild weather is one of the reasons why I like it here.
There is one thing I like the least about the winter and changing season…the shorter days! I love the height of summer, when the sun is out until 9:00 in the evening. And now, by 5:00PM, the sun is gone.
–Updated on Sunday, December 9th: I am adding this winter sunset photo, taken yesterday, around 4:45 PM. And just like that, the day was over…

I just remembered, too, that I posted changing seasons, and spring time photos earlier this year (link to my green fields photo below, or here to Signs of Spring). Spring is my favorite time of the year and season.

Nice photos for this theme. We don’t have mild winters like California (in Indiana), but the last few year have been more mild than usual. And although I’ve complained about the 40 degree “cold”, we’ve had it relatively warm for this time of the year, with a few days in the high 60′s. Feels like we are living in Tennessee or Georgia with warm Springs and warm, foggy Falls. Thanks for the pingback!
Jeff grew up in Indiana…I think most everyone is experiencing different weather, and changes are happening everywhere. That is mild then for your area! Wow…
We are finally getting some snow here in MN! Thank goodness as I love it!
Good to hear that you are ready for it, and happy about it Nicole!

Lovely pictures! In a good year we also have blossoming roses in december and only a week of snow. And then it is grey here too. And I like it that way. Hope the snow we got now will be it for this winter but the weather men keeps changing theirs forecasts. A few weeks ago the winter was said to be mild, now we are going to have a “wolfe´s winter”. I wish you a good weekend from southern Sweden (from parts thant used to belong old Denmark).
Thank you!
We usually do not see roses blooming in December…I think the rains pretty much rot out whatever late blooms develop. I see you have a rose for your profile photo too! I’ll have to learn more about “wolfe’s winter” in Sweden as I have not heard that term before.

Lovely photos!
Thank you. Can’t wait ’till Spring/Summer though!
Great photos – I felt a little like your husband when we lived in California – but I did like not having to get the kids into snowsuits!!
Yes, he definitely still misses the distinct seasons. I did have some experience with snowsuits while living in Germany, when we would suit up our little daughter to keep her warm. Our baby sitter, Oma Lonien would say “ooooh…kleine Schneehäschen” upon seeing her in her pink snowsuit.
These are beautiful photos and I love the way you lay them out and added beautiful, poetic language to them.. I enjoyed my visit. What happened to your LIKE button? Activate it so we can support you in that way too.
You are so kind! Thank you. I have to work on the “like” button for wordpress, I have a self-hosted site and have not found the right plug in yet…
Oh! Okay… Cee Neuner has one on her site that cold work for you too. Here’s her blog address: http://www.ceephotography.com/
